UPCOMING FEATURE

Online Save Games

One of the most exciting features on the horizon is online save support. This update will let you safely back up your progress to the cloud, making it effortless to switch devices or restore data whenever needed. Whether you’re getting a new phone or reinstalling the game, your journey will always be right where you left off—just a quick login away.

KEVIN (Everbyte):
Working on save game systems is always a bit nerve-wracking. There’s just no room for mistakes. We’re putting in a lot of hours to build a new and more robust system, so thanks for bearing with us. The one we used in Duskwood usually held up, but it struggled during peak times, especially around major releases when everyone jumped in at once. Those crashes gave us serious headaches – because really, is there a worse moment to lose your progress? We always felt super sorry for all players that have been affected by this in any way and we knew we need to come up with something more robust. Our new solution is more complex and way more costly for us to maintain, but it’s also significantly faster and more stable. We will most likely roll out this feature as a staggered release very soon prior to episode 3. Staggered release means initally only some players will have access to it and we can slowly crank up the numbers while monitoring if everything works as intended (fingers crossed🤞).

UPCOMING FEATURE

Themes

Messenger Themes are finally making their comeback – something many of you have been asking for! If you played Duskwood, you’ll remember how much fun it was to personalize the chat experience, and we’re thrilled to bring that same customization to Moonvale. With a wide range of themes to choose from, you’ll be able to match the messenger’s look to your vibe – whether that’s sleek and mysterious or bright and playful.

JAN (Everbyte):
We’ve always had a soft spot for the themes in Duskwood. During playtesting, it was almost a ritual – everyone rushed straight to their profile to pick their favorite theme before getting into any of the dialogues. At first, we were a bit unsure, would pastel pinks and cute cats break the dark, immersive atmosphere? But as it turns out, sometimes a splash of charm and whimsy is exactly what you need amidst all the mystery🙈 And honestly, who can say no to cute cats in the middle of the darkness?
Personally, I found myself using the ‘Raven’ theme the most. It was easy on the eyes during those long play sessions, thanks to its dark, muted tones. How about you? Did you have a favorite theme? And would you like to see some of the classics make a comeback in Moonvale? Let us know in the official preview & feedback post for themes on Instagram.

UPCOMING FEATURE

Character Profiles

Characters in Moonvale aren’t just names in a chat – they have lives, interests, and stories to share. That’s why we’re expanding the NPC profiles to go beyond a simple gallery. Soon, each character will have their own social-media-style profile, complete with bios, interests, favorite links, and personal posts and other cool stuff. These profiles offer a deeper glimpse into their personalities, quirks, and private worlds. We want them to truly give you a sense of who you’re talking to and what makes that character tick.

VANESSA (Everbyte):

For me as the author profiles are more than just extra content – they’re a storytelling tool. They let us show sides of the characters that don’t always come through in conversation. What they share, what they hide, even how they present themselves – it’s all part of the narrative. Visiting the profiles should feel a bit like snooping through your mysterious friend’s feed… with their permission, of course😇

UPCOMING FEATURE

Player Profiles 2.0

We’re redesigning the player profile to better reflect the original vision we had during Moonvale’s early concept phase. The new design aims to be cleaner, more grounded, and more in line with the game’s realistic tone – giving you a space to share more about your character and their story.

We’re also making changes to profiles and backgrounds. We get that the current options aren’t for everyone and that’s okay! We’ve got lots of ideas and will be adding new collections over time, with more variety based on your feedback. Our goal is to make sure everyone can find something that truly fits their personality.

While we are striving for a more realistic and immersive design, we still want your journey and accomplishments to shine through. Achievements will continue to be part of your profile, but we believe they’ve been a bit too dominant in the past. In the new version, they will be more subtly integrated, blending better with the rather realistic ‘profile page look’. Taking this thought even one step further you’ll also have the option to completely hide achievement notifications for more immersive gameplay.

One of the most exciting additions to the profile is the Media Collection. A feature we’ve all been missing since Moonvale is out. Here, you’ll find all the images, calls, voice messages, and other important media you’ve received throughout your adventure. Everything will be neatly organized and accessible whenever you need it for your investigation.

From the start, our vision for the player profile was to make it feel truly personal – something that really feels like yours. Things like these take time to get just right and these first changes are the foundation we can further expand in the future.

INSIGHT

Episode Passes

We’re really happy to see how much you’ve enjoyed the new Episode Passes! A lot of you have shared that you like this approach, so we’ll definitely keep it around. However, it’s a good time to remember why we introduced the Diamond System in the first place. We wanted to offer a solution for players to unlock extra content without spending real money. This was something Duskwood didn’t provide, and many of you asked us to find a way to solve this. We believe offering both systems is the best solution. Each has its own advantages, and they can be used and mixed together however it suits you best!

  • The Diamond System lets you specifically unlock bonus content. Diamonds can be bought or earned in form of in-game rewards for free. So even if you can’t or don’t want to spend money, you can still unlock everything sooner or later.
  • The Episode Passes, on the other hand, give you a more premium way to unlock all the extra content in one discounted purchase – which directly supports the development of the game ❤️

Some of you might wonder why we don’t offer a single pass for all episodes at once. The main reason is that we haven’t finalized how many episodes the full story will have yet. This makes it very hard if not impossible to set a fair price. We don’t want to charge you a big fee upfront for content that isn’t available yet. By going episode by episode, we can keep the price lower and offer discounts as we go. We believe this strikes the best balance for everyone.

UPCOMING FEATURE

Minigame Redesign

Some of you have shared that you’re not too fond of the current minigame visuals and honestly, we feel the same. The mature, distinctive style of the minigames in Duskwood fit the darker atmosphere much better, and that’s the feeling we want to bring back in Moonvale. Some of you might be wondering why we changed them in the first place. Over the years of Duskwood, it became clear that the old design, with its similar-looking cubes and lack of distinct shapes, made it very difficult for players with visual impairments or color blindness to beat the puzzles. Accessibility matters to us, and we knew we couldn’t carry those same issues into Moonvale. We initially shifted toward a more casual, colorful match-3 style to make the system easier for new players to recognize, but we realized that this look feels out of place with the serious tone of our story.
Going forward, our goal is to come up with a design that feels atmospheric and fitting for Moonvale’s dark universe while still being accessible to everyone. We need to stick to simple geometric shapes and clear color distinctions for inclusivity, which is more challenging than it sounds – it’s easy for these elements to look overly “childish” if not handled carefully. We’re testing new ideas to create something that is satisfying, stylish, and true to the spirit of the game, without leaving anyone behind.

Your voice matters

Your journey through Moonvale doesn’t end at the screen – it continues here, with us. For each feature you’ve seen above, we’ll be sharing dedicated posts on Instagram over the coming weeks (starting today!) to gather your thoughts, hopes, and ideas. These feedback rounds are your chance to help shape what’s ahead.

We’re listening closely.
After all, you’re the reason Moonvale exists at all. ❤️
